Hornchurch Athletic batted first in this 9th Hamro Foundation Essex League match of the season and racked up a competitive 289 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs.  Opener Ben Taylor was in good form in stroking a fine century (112) before being stumped by skipper Martin Mailey, and he received support from Asad Mujtaba (49) and Ahsan Khan (42*).  Of the Belhus bowlers who toiled in the heat wave, only Henry Overy made any impression by bowling superbly to collect a career-best 6 for 56.

In the run chase after tea, most of our batters managed to reach double figures but were unable to kick on and were dismissed for 152 after 35 overs.  Given the strength of the 2nd XI batting line-up, this was a disappointing response which they will be anxious to amend in next week's League match against Aztecs Ilford at North Stifford.
