MCC CLINCH VICTORY OVER BELHUS

13 Aug 2025

MCC CLINCH VICTORY OVER BELHUS:

MCC 215-9. BELHUS 188 all out:

In the Club's biennial all-day match against MCC at North Stifford, MCC batted first but came up shorter than they would have hoped as they declared on 215 for 9 after 51 overs with Nabeel Aziz top-scoring at a run-a-ball 61 before being trapped lbw by Henry Overy.  Abdullah Mir was the lead wicket-taker for the hosts with 3 for 34.

In the run-chase, Belhus never quite got into their stride and were positively struggling at 84 for 6.  But then Billy Winter and skipper Ryan Wells carved a 65-run 7th wicket partnership to swing the game around before Winter was stumped for 35.  At 149 for 7 the result was still in the balance until Wells fell for 54 with the score at 181 for 8, and as Ted Waters and Henry Overy followed shortly thereafter Belhus were dismissed for 188 to lose by 27 runs.

Although not a high-scoring match, it was nonetheless competitive and thoroughly enjoyable and played, as always, in the true spirit of the game.
