MCC 265-5
BEHUS 248 ALL OUT.
This was our third match at North Stifford against the renowned MCC with the traditional start time of 11.30.
Captained
by former Belhus player John Lewis Jnr, MCC batted first and found
opener Fluck (96) and Tredgett (94) in fine form as they both fell just
short of their centuries and enabled MCC to declare on 265 for 5 after
46.5 overs. None of our bowlers really got into his stride although
Nathan Khelawon collected 2 wickets.
In our run-chase, our
batters soon showed their intent with Joe Joyce (76) and Ryan Wells (60)
setting the pace, but MCC grasped the initiative in taking out our
middle-order. Andrew Williams (35) swung the game back into our favour
with a positive knock and Dulanjala Mendis (24 not out) looked like he
was going to steer us home to victory. But it wasn't to be as Belhus skipper Max Osborne's side narrowly failed to reach the required target in 35 overs to lose by just
17 runs. Nevertheless, it was a close game of cricket enjoyed
by all.
Belhus is the only Club in our borough to host a match against the prestigious MCC. Mark Blake (scorer) and umpires Martin Burnley and Todd Hamilton performed their
duties with a smile and good humour.
