Match report Third Time Lucky

The second in the series of three games in four days saw the visit of Orsett and Thurrock to play Belhus. The Blaze players had a point to prove after already losing twice to Orsett this season. Once in the Under 12s competition and again in the Under 11s cup. It was a customary hot, dry day at Thames Rugby Club and the players arrived expecting a battle. Christian Remmer was reinstalled as captain and finally won a toss, which was celebrated like a victory! He elected to bowl first and the two opening bowlers began the match. Ethan enjoyed success in his first over, knocking the bails off his former teammate Nooh. Orsett found a way to score regularly and but also continued to lose wickets fairly regularly. The pick of the batters was James Abbot who scored seventeen from twelve balls and included three fours. The highlight of the innings came on the very last ball when Louise Cox took an exceedingly difficult diving catch that capped off a good display by Belhus. Orsett had battled to a modest but defendable score. Belhus would have to bat well and preserve wickets to win the game.

After the break the Belhus opening batters strode out to the middle determined to get a good start. It was a mixed bag with Oscar losing two wickets whilst Ethan preserved his wicket and picked up a boundary. The next pair had equally variable luck. Some nervous running and the loss of three wickets put progress on the bac foot and not many runs had been scored. However, Louie and Ollie steadied the ship and put up back on track with some fantastic stroke play and sensible running between the wickets. By the time Mahad and Rayyan came to bat the scores were very close and, thanks to some great batting, they took the team into the lead. By the time the last pair came to bat the run margin was comfortable and they could play without fear. Eesa kept it tight against some good bowling whilst Christian punished some good bowlers with twenty one runs coming from his twelve balls.

At the end it was a comfortable win that puts the team in a great position. At the sharp end of the season the team has put themselves in a great position and the future looks bright.
