Belhus CC made it back-to-back victories after producing an excellent all-round performance to defend 260 and secure a hard-earned 20-run win.

After winning the toss, Belhus had no hesitation in choosing to bat first, and made full use of the opportunity on a good batting surface. The innings was given early momentum by the explosive Alfie Ware, who smashed 62 from just 36 balls, peppering the boundary with nine fours and two sixes at a remarkable strike rate of over 170. After a few wickets fell, R Waters anchored the middle overs with a composed 42, before Aariyan Kansagra took centre stage with an outstanding unbeaten 75 from 60 deliveries, combining elegance with power to keep the scoreboard ticking. He was well supported by Rakesh Reddy, whose unbeaten 14 helped Belhus finish strongly on 260-4 from their allotted 40 overs.

In reply, the visitors made a determined chase, largely thanks to a superb 112 from B Poch, who kept his side firmly in contention throughout the innings. However, Belhus continued to chip away with timely wickets to ensure the required run rate never slipped too far in the batting side’s favour.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Ethan Hammes, before Imran Mohammed removed opener C Martin for 22 to halt an important partnership. The turning point, though, came from Rakesh Reddy, who produced a match-winning spell of 3-40, including the crucial wickets of the dangerous B Poch, T Ali and P Kumar. Ashir Saleem bowled with excellent control, returning 5-1-15-0, while Alfie Ware also chipped in with an important wicket.

Despite the opposition finishing on 240-6, Belhus’ disciplined bowling, sharp fielding and the sizeable first-innings total proved enough to seal a deserved 20-run victory.

Another excellent team performance with valuable contributions throughout the side, showing once again that setting a challenging total and backing it up with disciplined bowling is a winning formula.

Belhus 3rd XI are currently 2nd in the table with eight games remaining for the season.
