Belhus Saturday 3rd XI produced an excellent all-round performance to claim a convincing 8-wicket win against Orsett & Thurrock.

Belhus won the toss and elected to field first as the bowlers quickly settled into disciplined lines and kept the pressure on throughout the innings.

Orsett & Thurrock battled hard and managed to put 150 on the board, but they were eventually bowled out in 39.4 overs. Several batters made useful contributions, including Lahang Tumbahangpe with 29, Logan Vereker with 29, and Kian Flood with 21, but Belhus continued to take wickets at important moments. The standout performer with the ball was George Church, who bowled a superb spell, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs from 7 overs, including 4 maidens. He was well supported by Rakesh Reddy, who was excellent with figures of 2 for 9 from 7 overs, while Ashir Saleem also bowled very well, taking 2 for 20 from 8 overs. Ariyan Kansagra and Puneet Singh Bal also picked up a wicket each, and Belhus completed the innings with a sharp run out by Alfie Bowden.

Chasing 151 to win, Belhus lost a couple of early wickets, with Mahfooz Mazumder scoring 19 and Mohammad Sadman Hossan making 3. However, from that point onwards, the chase was controlled brilliantly. Young Oliver Davy and the seasoned Richard Waters then came together at the crease, showing that when youthful confidence meets experienced wisdom, bowlers usually have a long afternoon. Oliver played a fantastic unbeaten innings of 72 not out, striking 13 boundaries and batting with great confidence. Richard provided the perfect support with a calm and composed 50 not out, as the pair guided Belhus home comfortably.

Belhus reached the target in 29.4 overs, finishing on 151 for 2 and securing a well deserved 8-wicket victory.

And at the halfway stage of the season with 9 matches remaining, captain Imran Mohammed's 3rd XI are poised in third place in their Division - just 9 points behind the leaders Westcliff-on-Sea.
