Wickford v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 09 May 2026 at 12:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 118 Runs
Match report
Belhus 3rd XI 245 (Alfie Ware 86 Imran Mohammed 52 Jacob Brown 6-26)
Wickford 3rd XI 127-7
Our 3rd XI opened their 2026 league campaign in style with a commanding 118-run victory over Wickford CC.
After an excellent start, Belhus looked in complete control as Alfie Ware and Tom Thompson put on 124 for the first wicket. Ware led the charge with a superb 86 from 76 balls, striking 14 fours and 2 sixes, while Thompson contributed a solid 27. However, Wickford fought back brilliantly through Jacob Brown, whose outstanding spell triggered a middle-order collapse. From a strong position of 137-2, Belhus slipped to 172-8, losing six wickets for just 35 runs. Brown was the chief destroyer, finishing with exceptional figures of 6 for 26 from 8 overs, repeatedly breaking through the batting line-up and giving Wickford renewed hope.
Skipper Imran Mohammed then played a supporting role in the closing stages, contributing a valuable 52 from 40 balls. Batting with positive intent alongside the lower order, he helped guide Belhus to a highly competitive total of 245 all out in 38.5 overs.
Belhus carried that momentum into the field. James Maynard set the tone with a superb spell of 3 for 12 from 8 overs, while George Church claimed 2 for 38, supported by Rakesh Reddy 1 for 20 and Alfie Ware 1 for 13. Wickford were restricted to 127 for 7 in their 40 overs, with Michael Spooner battling to an unbeaten 48.
This was an excellent all-round team performance. Well done Belhus – an excellent way to kick-start the league season.
