Belhus Cricket Club Hurricanes (Softball) v Benfleet on Sun 15 Jun 2025 at 9am
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 27 Runs
Match report
Belhus Storm to Second Victory in Style!
The Belhus Hurricanes continued their strong season form with an emphatic 33-run win over Benfleet on Sunday, notching their second victory with a display full of grit, skill, and cricketing maturity.
Losing the toss once again, the Hurricanes were asked to bat first — a challenge they accepted with confidence and composure. Openers Safaan and Owen laid a solid foundation, rotating the strike expertly and ensuring a wicketless start. Their chemistry at the crease was a joy to watch, with crisp calling and swift running that set the tone for the innings.
The momentum shifted up a gear when Maya and Finley took charge. Finley wasted no time, cracking an elegant boundary to kick things off, while both players kept the scoreboard ticking with sharp singles and excellent game awareness.
Aariz and Haris continued the charge with intelligent shot selection, including a well-timed boundary that kept the run rate healthy. Then came Molly and Tharak, who brought flair and power into the mix. One of Tharak’s shots soared just short of the maximum — a statement of intent and growing confidence. Their partnership provided a key acceleration to the innings.
In the final stages, Oscar and Harman took the baton, pressing on with excellent running between the wickets and stylish boundaries to close out a formidable team total of 318 net runs.
What stood out was the collective game awareness — every pair played smart cricket, minimising risk and maximising opportunities. It’s clear this young side is not just playing cricket, but understanding it. Their maturity with the bat was matched by their discipline in preserving wickets — a rare quality in junior cricket.
In the field, the Hurricanes were just as impressive. Defending 318, their bowlers kept a steady line and length, and the fielders rose to the occasion with sharp throws, committed dives, and safe hands.
Tharak nearly pulled off a difficult catch that typified the team’s fighting spirit. From the first ball to the last, the Hurricanes showed they’ve been absorbing lessons from their practice sessions — and putting them into action under pressure.
Benfleet fought hard and batted well to finish with 285 net runs, but the Belhus bowling unit, backed by alert fielding, ensured the hosts had the upper hand throughout.
The support from the sidelines was just as heartening. Parents and families cheered every run, every stop, and every wicket, creating an atmosphere that lifted the young players throughout the match.
This was more than just a win — it was a showcase of team spirit, preparation, and passion. As the Hurricanes march on to their next fixture this Friday, the signs are promising for a season full of promise and exciting cricket.
