Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 Blaze v Basildon and Pitsea Under 11 Bears on Thu 10 Jul 2025 at 18:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 23 Runs
Match report
On a hot afternoon in North Stifford, Belhus Blaze met the Basildon and Pitsea Bears for both teams' last league game of the season. Skipper Christian Remmer won the toss for Belhus and elected to bowl first.
It was a slow start for Bas and Pits who opened with Louie Wright and Louie Smith. Some very tidy bowling from Lithra Prabaharan and Raahil Rihaz restricted Bas and Pits to only 3 runs from their first four overs, with both bowlers bowling a maiden over each. Next Belhus pair to bowl were Abhinav Dharmani and Leo Picconi. Abhinav struck twice - one via a catch by Leo and the other a clever stumping by Christian behind the stumps. Despite this the batting pair of Lucas Lambourne and Aaryav Addlin put on a respectable 16 runs in their four overs, with Lucas striking a boundary and Aaryav striking two. The next bowling pair of George Hill and Arturo Cowdrey-Martinez again
applied the breaks on the Bas and Pits innings giving away a measly 3 runs from their four overs, which included a wicket for Arturo. This took the total for Bas and Pits to 22 from 12 overs. A very strong start from Belhus. The next batting pair of Ralph Kelly and Oscar Neild added an innings-boosting 15 runs from their four overs, despite Rayyan Kamran bowling a maiden over. This took the Bas and Pits total to 37 with their final four overs remaining. Unfortunately Belhus gave away a few extras in the last four overs (15 to be precise) to allow Bas and Pits to add another 16 runs to their total and post an innings total of 53, thus setting a target of 254 for Belhus to chase.
Lithra and Raahil opened the batting and unfortunately after their four overs the Belhus total stood at -1 given the loss of two wickets. Abhinav and Leo came in next and put on a formidable partnership of 20 to leave the score at 19 after 8 overs, with both batsmen striking a boundary each. Next in were George and Arturo and they added a solid 14 runs to the total making the score 33 from 12 overs. This left the last four batsmen 21 runs to get from eight overs to win the game. Next in were Mahad Jawad and Rayyan and this partnership produced fireworks for the spectators - four boundaries were hit, but four wickets also fell. By the end of their innings they had added 7 runs to the total taking it to 40. So with the final pair of Eesa and Christian to come in Belhus still needed 14 runs to win. It was closer than anticipated. But Belhus supporters needn't have worried - the pair did not lose a single wicket and managed to crack 6 boundaries, no less, with Christian striking 5 of them to send Belhus well clear of the total. Belhus finished on 76 runs (total 276) so ended up winning the game comfortably by a margin of 23 runs.
There were positive aspects for both teams, including the 121 runs that Belhus amassed in their innings, only to be reduced by 45 runs because of the 9 wickets they lost.
Overall the game was played in good spirit by both teams and enjoyed by all watching.
