Match report A Win on the Road

The Belhus Blaze enjoyed their third win on the bounce in a well fought game against the Rayleigh Owls. Another Sunday morning, another windswept ground to visit for the travelling Belhus players and parents to find out in the wilds of Essex. The team arrived full of hope after winning their previous two games and was able to field a side captained by Christian Remmer. The bowling display had made the difference in the Blaze's favour in the previous two wins but batting took centre stage first as Lithra Prabaharan and Advikhaa Kirubagaran walked out first. Both scored a run but, crucially, protected their wicket and didn't give any runs to the opposition. Arturo, despite considering himself a bowler, gave a fine display of how to hit, run and call well by amassing 10 from his 12 balls. Equally, Arthur and Christian reached double figures. By the end of the 20th over the Blaze had posted a respectable 102 runs. A note of appreciation for Meg Turnbull, a Rayleigh bowler who took a wicket and only conceded 8 runs from her 12 deliveries.

Next, it was the Blaze's turn to attack with the ball. Everyone played their part in keeping the runs to a minimum but also the extras. Wides and no balls were restricted to fewer than the opposition and that was a major contributing factor to the comfortable win. We will be hoping to take that form into our next game against Orsett and Thurrock in the cup and then for the next league game the following weekend, yet another away game, this time at Westcliff. The vast majority of the squad are either new to the club and/or new to hardball cricket, having been playing softball cricket last season. It's to their credit that they have adapted and improved in the way they have and are enjoying success this summer.
