Match report Off And Running

A warm and sunny day at North Stifford greeted the players as they arrived for the first game of a big season for the Blaze. The scene was set as the opposition won the toss and chose to bowl first. Our openers made a solid start and this continue down the order. Wickets were hard to come by for Rayleigh Fairview and the Blaze undoubtedly benefitted from a generous number of extras. The last pair made the most significant impact. George Hill and Christian Remmer added 40 runs between them thanks to some fantastic shots and a good number of boundaries. They scored 14 and 26 respectively. The team went to the innings break with a sense of satisfaction and that they had made a good start.

After some refreshment provided by two of the parents the team was raring to get back out there and bowl. Pleasingly, seven of the 20 overs were maidens. All the Rayleigh Fairview players found it difficult to score from some tight and disciplined bowling. Although some wides and no balls were conceded there were far less than those the opposition gave away. In addition to this seven wickets were taken. Rayyan Kamran, on his debut for the club picked up the best figures of the innings by taking two wickets and giving away only four runs in his two overs. The other wickets were shared evenly by five of his team mates.

By the end of the match it was clear that the Blaze had won the match comprehensively by 65 runs. The result was a team effort and the whole squad will take inspiration from this game into the next one away at Hadleigh and Thundersley. Here's to a successful season!
