Ilford 4th XI v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 23 Aug 2025 at 12:30
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 150 Runs
Match report
With the Belhus 4th XI understrength due a raft of absent availability during the peak holiday period this was always going to be another tough outing in this strong league division and so it proved. Ilford are a good outfit full of experienced senior players and their depth in all departments was key to this result.
Belhus lost the toss and were invited to bowl. The shining light for Belhus on a testing day was the waspish fast bowling of young Ethan Hammes. His excellent direct pacy spell helped reduce Ilford to 61 for 5 as he took the fine figures of 4 for 36 from his allotted 8 overs as he proved a real handful. Two clean bowled victims, an LBW as well as a caught and bowled were testament to his accuracy and speed. This is where the depth referred to earlier kicked in for Ilford as Aman with a fine 73 and Khan with a muscular 55 dug the hosts out their hole with a partnership of 112 which put them firmly in control. Brian Edwards with 2 wickets broke the partnership and Harvey Stapleton came back well in his second spell to take 3 for 50 as Belhus bowled Ilford out for 213 in just over 30 of their allotted 40 overs. Evie-Mae Baldwin celebrated her 13th birthday with a wicket as Adam Martin took a smart stumping to go with a catch behind the stumps.
Sadly Belhus struggled with the bat as Khan added a fiery spell to his 55 runs grabbing 5 for 24. Linge and Nabeel took 2 victims apiece as Belhus were bundled out for 63 in just 16.2 overs. A very limp display with the bat with only Mr Extras making doubles figures with 15.
A sobering day for the visitors, but well played Ilford who were very good and friendly hosts and fully deserved their win.
