Match report It was touch and go as to whether this game would be on, but after some kind parting of the clouds, the Belhus Hurricanes were able to take on the Basildon & Pitsea Buffalos for the first fixture of the season, played on home soil at North Stifford. The Hurricanes were captained by Arthur Saleem, who won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Buffalos were a very strong bowling outfit and restricted each of the Hurricanes batters to a single digit score, with Arthur Saleem - batting at number 8 - top-scoring for the Hurricanes with 7 runs, including the solitary boundary of the innings. The Hurricanes could only muster a total of 214 runs (200 + [44 - 30]), a very low score to defend.

The Buffalos started steadily with opening batter Ronnie Shinnick striking two boundaries. The rest of the Buffalos' batting continued in similar vein until the final batting pair of Aaron Jones and Eddie Clarke-Irons, who smashed 22 and 27 runs respectively to put the game beyond any doubt. The Buffalos ended on a big score of 323 (200 + [129 - 6]).

A resounding win for the Buffalos and a chastening start to the season for the Hurricanes, but at least a game was played when many others were cancelled. The best of luck to the Buffalos for the rest of the season - onwards and upwards for the Hurricanes.
