Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 30 Runs

Match report On an overcast Sunday morning in July and under light drizzle the Belhus Hurricanes faced the Stanford-le-Hope Sabres for the third time this season. The Sabres won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Sabres started slowly thanks to some tight bowling by Ibrahim Muhammad and Leonardo Picconi (the Hurricanes captain on the day). But the second Sabres pair of Grace Robinson and Frank Street batted aggressively and scored 12 and 16 runs respectively to give the Sabres innings some needed momentum. A combination of solid batting from the Sabres and some missed chances from the Hurricanes meant that the Sabres reached a strong total of 296 (200 + [105-9]), with a wicket apiece for Leonardo Picconi and Oscar Cowdrey-Martinez.

The Belhus Hurricanes innings started strongly with opening batter Leonardo Picconi hitting a boundary off only his second ball, but unfortunately wickets fell consistently throughout the innings as a result of some overly aggressive running between the wickets which resulted in a number of run-outs. Despite a brave effort at the end of the innings by George Hill, who top scored for the Hurricanes with 13, the Sabres ran out winners yet again.

So the Sabres won the game in the end by 30 runs. Let's hope the Hurricanes can return to winning form next week when they play two games in two days.
