Belhus Cricket Club Hurricanes (Softball) v O & T Lions on Wed 28 Jun 2023 at 18:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 56 Runs
Match report
The Belhus Hurricanes played against the Orsett & Thurrock Lions on the afternoon of Weds 28th June at home in North Stifford. Coming off the back of their first league win, spirits were high and captain Yash Soni started well by winning the toss and electing to bat.
The Hurricanes started strongly with Eesa Naveed opening the batting and scoring 16 runs from his 12 balls, including four boundaries. Not to be outdone, George Hill coming in at number 5 scored 17 from his 12 balls, also striking four boundaries. But the top score of the innings came from debutant Benjamin Winston-Webb who smashed 22 runs off his 12 balls, including five boundaries. It was clear from early on that the Hurricanes were going to post a large total and after Ethan Brown finished the innings with 17 runs from his 12 balls (incl 3 boundaries), the Hurricanes posted a large total of 320 (200 + [129-9]).
The Lions started well with opener Maxwell scoring 8 striking 2 boundaries and his partner Lucas also scoring 8 (with 1 boundary), but the Lions lost regular wickets thanks to some excellent bowling and fielding from the Hurricanes, which included three run-outs and some brilliant catches. A late flurry from Bodie (9) and Grant (8) took the Lions up to 264 (200 + [97-33]).
So like the proverbial London buses, we waited ages for a win and two came in quick succession. Long may this winning run continue.
