Benfleet batted first in this sixth Hamro Foundation Essex League match of the season, and we were pleased with our effort in holding our hosts at 67 for 4 but their middle-order Lee Wheeler (45) and Alfie Ayres (44) pulled things around and they reached 229 for 7.

Such a total was within our capability, but although Michael Cansdale stroked a fine 83 from 64 balls and Scott Sinfield 30 from 24 balls, we were unable to maintain the momentum and it was left to skipper Martin Mailey (21 from 47 deliveries) and Charlotte Waters (14 from 61 deliveries) to ensure that we achieved a draw.
