Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 4 Runs

Match report On a cold and wet evening in Basildon, the Belhus Hurricanes played their second league game of the season, this time against Basildon and & Pitsea Bears. With heavy rain in the days and hours leading up to the game there was doubt as to whether the game would go ahead, but after two pitch inspections it was declared playable and commenced 30 minutes later than scheduled.

The Hurricanes won the toss and captain, Logan Rand, decided to bat first. The conditions were difficult to bat in with the ball stopping in the pitch and the first runs didn't come off the at until Aaron Mansfield came in at no 7 to top-score with 6 runs. Throughout the innings a number of extras were given away by the bowling side (85 in total, including 67 wides) to leave the Hurricanes with a total of 281 (200 + [90-9]).

The Bears came out of the traps flying, with opener Max Lewis hitting a boundary off his first ball. Max proceeded to hit an impressive 21 in 12 balls, including another boundary and two sixes! At this early stage in the second innings it looked like the Bears would run away with the game, but the Hurricanes pulled it back with some good bowling, picking up a number of Bears wickets. As well as two run-outs, there was a wicket each for Sophie Hill, Aryan Pokhriyal, Millie Walker, Aaron Mansfield and Abhinav Dharmani. In the end the Bears finished their innings with 285 (200 + [106-21]).

So after a close finish the Bears emerged victorious by 4 runs - congratulations to the Bears! And congratulations also to the Hurricanes who braved the elements and got more game experience under their belts. Hopefully the next game will bring some sunshine!
