Bentley v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 04 Jun 2023 at 1.00pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 31 Runs
Match report
Belhus 283-4 (Joe Joyce 117* Danny Joyce 112)
Bentley 252 (Ashley Parmenter 81 Tom Hunter 75 Joe Joyce 5 for 47)
BELHUS EMERGE REGIONAL WINNERS (SOUTH EAST) OF THE NATIONAL VILLAGE CUP.
We met Bentley in the Regional Final (South East Group) of the Voneus National Village Cup.
Put into Bat we lost an early wicket but brothers Joe and Danny Joyce combined to post a Club Record 2nd Wicket Partnership of 242 to lift us to a competitive total of 283 for 6 from the allotted 40 overs. Danny registered 112 while Joe was undefeated on 117. This was the second instance of brothers each scoring a century in a Belhus match (the first was also by Joe and Danny against Old Brentwoods in 2015).
After tea, Bentley were soon in trouble at 23 for 2 but opener Tom Hunter (75) and skipper Ashley Parmenter (81) produced a magnificent partnership of 173 before Parmenter was dismissed by Joe Joyce. Thereafter, wickets fell steadily and although Bentley put up a brave performance, they came up short of the required target and Belhus won by 31 runs. Skipper Joe finished his spell with 5 for 47 to become only the 3rd player in the Club's 63-year history to Score a Century and Take a '5for' in a Belhus match. And Danny held on to 4 outfield catches one of which was outstanding. Bravo. Thanks to Julie for scoring and the hospitality of Bentley CC.
We now proceed to the fifth round of the Cup when we meet the Regional Winners of the Suffolk & North Essex Group - Woolpit CC in Suffolk - away on 18th June at 1.00pm.
