Old Southendian & Southchurch 2nd XI 230 all out

Batting first in this fifteenth Hamro Foundation Essex League match of the season on a scorching hot day at Garon Park, our 2nd XI lost two early wickets but recovered well thanks to a magnificent 161 not out from opener Wayne Read and a fine 68 from in-form Henry Overy that took us to highly competitive 341 for 9 from our allotted 50 overs. Read's innings included 21 fours and 2 sixes and was the second time in consecutive seasons he has carried his bat for a hundred in this fixture. A remarkable feat. It was also the 10th highest team total in the Club's history.

In their reply after tea, although openers Waj Ahmed (42) and Martin Paige (47) got OSS off to a decent chase, they were never really in the hunt as skipper Martin Guilbert and Tyler Robertson bowled well to take 4 and 3 wickets respectively and we marched home to a comfortable 111-runs victory.

Sitting in 5th place in their HFEL Division and 34 points behind leaders Billericay, our 2nd XI are still in contention for promotion if they finish strongly in the remaining 3 matches.
