Batting first in this tenth Hamro Foundation Essex League match of the season, our 2nd XI were only able to post a modest total of 218 for 9. Martin Guilbert (32), Chris Didd (34), Teddy Waters (42) and Alex Blake (38) all made comfortable starts but were unable to kick on. Alex Brazier was the pick of the Orsett bowlers with 4 for 57.

In the run-chase after tea, Orsett got off to a shaky start but Mason Wren (52) and Matt Hills (49*), with contributions from the lower order, saw them get close to the required total but the game closed out to a draw. It was a good game of cricket that could have gone either way.

With eight games of the season remaining, our 2nd XI are sitting in 5th place in their 10-team division - just 11 points behind the leaders Fives & Heronians, while the Orsett side are languishing in ninth position. Belhus skipper Martin Guilbert is hoping for some strong performances from his young side in the coming weeks if they are to contend for a promotion spot.
