Batting first in this Hamro Foundation Essex League match at North Stifford, our 1st XI had a little blip in the middle order and despite a controlled 57 not out from Max Osborne, were only able to get to 194 for 8 off 64 overs. James Clifford was Chelmsford's lead wicket-taker with 4 for 59.

In their run-chase, opener Jack Sterland batted doggedly for 53 but no other batter showed any signs of taking Chelmsford to the required target. Oliver Devenish batted well before being clean-bowled by left-armer Ray Toole, as too did Liam Keaney before suffering the same fate. With Chelmsford finding themselves on 169 for 8, the game could well have gone either way, but they just squeezed over they line to win an exciting encounter by 1 wicket.

Sitting in 9th place in the Premier Division and with 6 matches remaining, skipper Max Osborne is hoping for some good performances from his team if they are to edge their way up the table in the closing stages of the season.
