Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 v Basildon & Pitsea on Mon 05 Jul 2021 at 17:30
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 77 Runs
Match report
Basildon & Pitsea (h) Monday July 5th
After travelled to Benfleet yesterday and having the game washed out, it was good to get back out on the grass with the boys and play what so far is only out third home game of the season at North Stifford.
With the usual 5:30pm start time fast approaching, Oliver who was back as skipper after missing the previous game, went out into the middle and won the toss. He chose to bowl first.
The opening bowlers for Belhus were Charles and debutant Albert.
Charles conceded just 13 runs from his two overs. Albert however, managed to pick up a wicket in his first over and finished with figures of 1 wicket for 8 runs.
Will and Harvey were next into the attack and their four overs came with the loss of just 14 runs.
During this time we also picked up two wickets, the first was an excellent ball from Harvey to bowl to visiting batsman and the second was a run out on Will’s bowling after great work in the field from George.
Oli and Charlie bowled the middle overs and made sure they didn’t give many runs away. Charlie picked up a wicket and ended with figures of 1 wicket for 3 runs and Oli only conceded 6 runs during his spell.
After a quick change behind the stumps, Reuben joined the Belhus attack with Aryan.
Both boys bowled exceptionally well conceding just 8 runs each, with Reuben picking up 2 wickets also. Therefore finishing the game with his seasons best figures of 2 wickets for 8 runs.
Our death bowlers this week were Vansh and George and boy were there fireworks.
During these 4 overs the boys picked up 4 Basildon & Pitsea wickets and only conceded 8 runs between.
Vansh finishing with 1 wicket for 6 runs and George picking up 3 wickets for the loss of 2 runs, one of which was an excellent catch behind the stumps by skipper Oliver.
Basildon & Pitsea ended their innings on 68 runs for the loss 10 wickets, which gave them a net score of 38.
Before we began our chase, the target looked achievable, but we know know this format of cricket if you lose a lot of wickets this can be an issue, so that was the message given to the boys.
Charles and Albert came to the crease as openers and both scored their first runs of the season.
Charles was able to get off the mark by hitting his 11th ball for a single and Albert managed 7 runs that included an excellent boundary.
Harvey and Will came onto the field soon after and it was obvious they had been listening to the coaches in regards to running between the wickets because they ran EVERYTHING :) And it was wonderful to see. Harvey added 3 to the total and Will got 10.
Will’s 10 was his highest of the season so far and included consecutive boundaries that we whipped off his legs to the fine leg boundary.
I’m reliably informed that his grandfather taught him that in the garden………..or so his grandfather says anyway :)
Charlie and Aryan were in next and both lads continued the excellent play that had come before them.
Charlie picked up 8 runs and Aryan 12 which included two delightful boundaries and taking him to his highest score of the season so far.
Oli and Reuben wrapped up the final four overs adding 37 runs to the board including extras.
Reuben scored 11 from his 12 balls which included a couple of 2’s showing the excellent running these boys produce and also a delightful boundary to finish his innings.
Oli picked up 18 runs that included two 4s, one of which nearly injured about five people and a huge 6 over mid wicket.
This brought the Belhus runs total up to 145 for the loss of 10 wickets. We ended on a net score of 115 which was a 77 run victory which is our biggest so far.
The lads have now wracked up 6 wins from 9 and confidence is high.
The general feel at the game was that we had run more between the wicket in this game than we had previously and that was shown in the figures when the coaches sat down for a quiet “half” of lemonade after the game.
Sorry…..but here come the stats…….
From our 120 balls, we scored from 70 of them (including extras). This included 26 singles, 7 balls whera we ran multiple times to score(2s & 3s) and also 12 boundaries including one 6.
Three bowlers got their best bowling figures of the season and also four batsmen got their highest scores of the season too.
I’m evolving the scores and figures that I record after each game all the time, so have got batting and bowling averages too now if any of the lads want to know their facts and figures then let me know.
Kind Regards
