Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 54 Runs

Match report Belhus played their first league match entertaining the Orsett and Thurrock Lions at a thankfully dry North Stifford after the recent damp weather. The Lions used their greater experience to win by 54 runs but this was another valuable batch of lessons learned for the young Belhus team.

Captain for the day Kayhan won the toss for Belhus and chose to bowl. The Lions batted well with Elijah (27) top-scoring, backed up by good contributions from Amas (10) and Carter, Naryan and Josh who all made 9. One of the lessons for Belhus was the number of wides bowled (20) which cost 2 runs a piece. So something to work on next time to see if this number can be reduced. The good news for Belhus was they took 6 wickets. Abhinav was the main man taking 2 wickets with great support from Jax, Kayhan and Alfie who all took a wicket a piece. Alfie also took an excellent catch in the outfield which was great to see. A small tip for our youngsters is to watch every ball bowled and concentrate as hard as possible, imagining every ball is going to come to them, so they are ready to catch or field the ball rather than be surprised or worse still get hit by the ball if they are not watching. So the Lions scored 131 but by losing 6 wickets they had to net off 18 runs so their final score was 113-6.

When Belhus batted they lost 10 wickets, several due to run outs, so another learning curve is to judge running between the wickets a little better. On the positive side, Belhus did score 89 runs with Alfie top-scoring with 20 (including two 4's and a fine six). Kayhan made 10 not out including one 4 and Leo (6) and Christian (5) both hit one 4 a piece as well, with Christian in particular showing great intent to try and hit the ball which was great to see. Unfortunately, losing 10 wickets meant a deduction of 30 runs so the Belhus net total was 59 for 10.

So a loss for Belhus but no disgrace in what was for some their first match. The key is to enjoy the game, learn what can be improved next time and work hard in training. Well done everyone.
