Benfleet v Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 on Fri 28 Jun 2019 at 18:30
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 46 Runs
Match report
The under 11s continued there league campaign against a strong Benfleet side at Woodside park on Friday evening. Losing the toss, Belhus were asked to bat first and although beginning steadily, runs were hard to come by as Benfleet piled on some pressure in the first 10 overs with some sharp fielding in the ring. Oliver Davy (5) hit a lovely shot through square leg for 4 however was then unlucky to get caught on the legside boundary by Benfleets Alexander. 2 unfortunate run outs then followed. One, which was a particularly good direct hit put a slight dent in the score however James Maynard (10) Matthew Friend (5) and Dylan Sinfield (10) held the innings together and batted exceptionally well under pressure. A combination of good initiative, excellent running between the wickets and a few much needed boundaries pushed Belhus up to 60 runs for 7 wickets at the close, a great recovery. For Benfleet Holly was the pick of the bowlers picking up 1-1 off 3 overs with 2 maidens, and Benfleets skipper Maddox bowled steady to snag 2-4 off his 2 overs.
Belhus then took to the field. Benfleet began well as opener Luke scored back-to-back boundaries in the first over. However, back to back maidens from Lewys Worley and Zeeruk put some pressure back onto the Benfleet batsmen. The first wicket for Belhus came in the 5th over from Max Ballard, when he clean-bowled Benfleets Josh, and after a direct hit from Dylan Sinfield the very next ball, Benfleet were on the backfoot. The oh so consistent Ben Gladman, held on to a brilliant caught and bowled the over after, and the mood was starting to switch, all the boys were switched on knowing there was still work to do. Benfleet managed to turn the game during overs 10-15 as Samuel (15) & Louis (7) rebuilt for Benfleet and scored 22 runs between them. Belhus failed to find any more wickets in the last 10 overs and Ben Prophet delivered the final dagger for Benfleet with his 16 runs. Benfleet were the deserving winners on the day.
A tough game in hindsight. However the end result probably doesn't reflect much on how the boys performed. I thought the bowling was excellent once again as a UNIT and this is our real strength this year, it has improved game in and game out throughout the season. There was no shame in losing to Benfleet again, they have been gifted this year to have an exceptionally strong Under 11 team with boys and girls who feature in their Under 13s every week (and all of whom have played against our Under 13s this year). John Park from Benfleet had nothing but praise for all the boys and the effort they put in during games. We have Orsett and Thurrock Titans next in the league let's finish the games out strong.
