Harold Wood (95 Overs) v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 08 Jun 2019 at 12.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 54 Runs
Match report
Belhus 2nd XI 189-5
Harold Wood 2nd XI 135 all out
Belhus visited the very pleasant Harold Wood ground on Saturday expecting a tough game of cricket against strong opponents, and probably a damp green pitch after the mid week rains. On inspection, the pitch was dry as a bone and well grassed...it had been under the covers for 3 days.
Belhus won the toss, took first knock and were soon in trouble at 6 for 2 as Richard Bonner, the Harold Wood skipper, bowled a very good spell. The pitch was interesting, balls rising and squatting in no apparent order. At 25 overs Belhus were 50 for 3, Wayne Read having batted stoically for 12 from 69 balls to stave off the difficulties of the pitch.
Mark Sansom (48 not out) joined skipper Lewis (90) at the 3rd wicket and gradually they began to turn the game with some selective, welcome stroke play. Their partnership of 111 taking Belhus up to 151 for 4 with 9 overs left of the allotted 50. Jake Wolfe (27) after a difficult start found his timing, and at tea Belhus totalled 189 which was very welcome considering the capricious nature of the pitch.
After tea with the new ball spitting off a length, Harold Wood collapsed to 55 for 5 and 87 for 7 in the face of full length seam bowling from Darrell (5 for 37 in 16 overs) and Imran (3 for 37). Gary Sanderson returned to the Belhus team and, as per usual, took a wicket with his second ball. After all his back problems it was great to see Gary playing cricket again.
Harold Wood offered some resistance, Bonner smiting 4 big 6s in his innings but Belhus were not to be denied and got the final wickets to run out winners by 54 runs.
Andrew Williams fielded brilliantly, saving runs aplenty. Well done Andy.
A great result in a very good game of cricket. As Jake Wolfe said after the game, " Top work The Badgers" (that's his nickname for Belhus).
