A Narrow Defeat

Our first of three games against Orsett and Thurrock began with a cup game on a chilly Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, the captain's run of bad luck continued with coin in hand as the toss was lost. The team have yet to win a toss this season so far and this one was a good one to win. Belhus began with an early dismissal. Mahad Jawad, the hero against Harold Wood wasn't able to score. Others contributed but the best performance with the bat came from Harman Singh who retired not out on 30 runs from 41 balls. After our 20 overs, Belhus finished on a respectable and defendable score of 112 for 6.

The Scorchers began slowly but surely and the top order bowlers took early wickets. Rayyan Kamran claimed the first after a sharp catch behind the stumps by Christian Remmer. Ollie McWilliams took his first wicket for Belhus with a fantastic yorker, swiftly followed by Harman Singh who penetrated another batter's defenses. Unfortunately, although half-chances came to the field, there were no more wickets to fall. Bodie Dobson equaled Harman Singh's achievement of retiring not out. Thereafter, the fifth wicket partnership worked well to knock off the runs with seven balls to spare.

It was fine margins that decided the result and the second time in a week that Belhus have been on the wrong side of those margins. However, they have a chance to settle the score against Orsett with the final Under 12s group game falling 9 days later. The team will hope that the tables can be turned and a good performance will be rewarded.
