Match report Back to Winning Ways.

The Blaze squad reverted back to their more familiar pairs format for the Under 11s match away to Benfleet. Due to adverse weather and other factors, this was their first game since the difficult experience of their first Under 12s competition. Now they were back playing peers of the same age and similar experience/ability. The Blaze easily beat Benfleet's weaker team in the conference phase of the season, but knew the opposition's best team would provide a much sterner test. As usual, the team was captained by Christian and, as usual, poor Christian lost the toss again! However, the batters strode out to the middle confident of getting a good start. Lithra played very well and will be missed when she moves away to Cambridge at the end of the season.. Mehaan and Louie debuted for the team and lost no time fitting in. Most pleasing was the intensity with which the pairs would score quick runs and convert ones into twos. Batting first has been difficult but the team didn't let that put them off and they left the crease at the end of their innings with a defendable score of 97, losing only four wickets.

After the break the team took the field to ensure the bowling, and especially the fielding, was as tight as possible. It proved difficult for Benfleet to score as well. Some valiant fielding, excellent throwing up and some great backing up put pressure on the batting team. The bowlers also took wickets regularly and six were credited to Belhus by the end of the innings. The game became tighter and tighter as the game went on but Benfleet looked the likely winners after eighteen overs, the opposition only needing eleven runs from twelve balls. Up stepped Eesa and Christian to bowl magnificently and take three wickets, thereby deducted 15 runs from Benfleet's final score. By the end of the innings Belhus had won the game, thanks to team spirit and hard work. The commitment in the field made the difference and the fine margins were made by basic cricketing skills.

Next up is Rayleigh and the team's first game at Thames Rugby Club. A home venue we want to make a fortress.
