Westcliff-on-Sea won the toss and elected to bat first, posting an imposing 246 for 8 from their 40 overs.

Belhus were left to rue a difficult day in the field, with around ten catches going down over the course of the innings. In fact, the missed opportunities began immediately, with both Westcliff openers being dropped in the very first over. Despite the chances going begging, Keith Dhannie battled hard with the ball, returning 3 for 33, while Aarav Kansagra claimed 4 wickets as Belhus eventually restricted Westcliff to 246.

Belhus then suffered another significant setback before their run-chase had even begun. Ovais Ilyas was injured while fielding and had to be taken to A&E, leaving him unable to bat. His absence added further misery to an already fragile Belhus batting line-up, meaning they effectively began the daunting pursuit of 247 a batter short.

With an already difficult task made even harder, Belhus never managed to establish the partnerships required against a disciplined Westcliff bowling attack. Wickets fell regularly as the home side applied relentless pressure, with Keith Dhannie’s counter-attacking 34 from just 20 balls, including seven fours, providing the main resistance.

Westcliff capitalised fully on Belhus’s mistakes and backed up their strong batting performance with a disciplined display with the ball to secure a deserved victory.
