Don't Call it a Comeback!

A positively Baltic morning in Hadleigh greeted the Blaze players as they arrived at the John Burrows ground. It took time for the players to warm up and some of the adults never managed to get warm for the entire match. Christian Remmer, the captain and wicketkeeper won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening pair found it tough going and a surprisingly good open bowling pair took five wickets. The next few batting pairs stemmed the flow of wickets but also struggled to build on good starts but eventually enough runs were scored to compensate for those lost because of the wickets. The stand out batters were Rayyan and Christian who score 16 and 11 respectively. Their contributions gave the opposition something to chase and meant a victory would have to be earned with good batting. Wide bowling was also an issue and bolstered our score to a total of 93 at the end of the innings.

Some biscuits provided by the home side were very welcome and fuelled the Blaze players as they took the field to bowl. Hadleigh made a fantastic start with some good running to keep the score ticking over as Ayush Reddy and Jack Allpress impressed with a very positive approach, the latter scoring three boundaries. However, the Belhus bowling was consistent and comparatively tight, conceding fewer wides and no balls. The fielding also deserved praise as the players were alert and put their bodies on the line to prevent boundaries. However, Belhus were behind with 15 overs gone and all the effort seemed to be in vain. Then, up steps Rayyan, Eesa and Christian to bowl their allocation. The deliveries were rapid, accurate and too good for the Hadleigh batter. The wickets started to tumble and seven clean-bowled wickets fell. With 5 runs deducted for every wicket lost, Belhus found themselves snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and ultimately winning by 7 runs!

A fantastic team effort from everyone and produced a feel-good win and maintained the 100% win record this season so far. Although there's a long way to go before the end of the season, the Blaze will take confidence from each game and are looking forward to playing at Rayleigh next week.
