Belhus 5s had another tough day as they came up against a strong Newham side at our new residence at Thames RFC. The visitors batted first and started steadily with young opener Tusif making a calm 38. Paul Whitlock bowled a fine opening spell full of control taking 1 for 24 from his 8 overs. Newham increased the tempo thru Burkhari (42) and skipper Harsh (51). 43 extras didn't help the Belhus cause. There were wickets for Matt Friend, Harvey Stapleton and Zahid Ahmad, but debutant Akther Raju was the pick of the attack taking 4 wickets as Newham posted 238-8.

Belhus were indebted to Adam Martin in their reply as he made a battling 69 but nobody else made double figures as we cobbled together 122 all out. Burkhari added 3 wickets to his earlier run tally to wrap up a good day for him. Another day of learning for the young Belhus team. There are clearly some strong sides in this division and it will be hard going - but opportunities are certainly there for those willing to take them as Adam showed yesterday. Well played Newham.
