Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Old Sectonians on Sun 23 Jun 2024 at 1.00pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 34 Runs
Match report
Old Sectonians 243-6 ( Jashirat Singh 101*)
Belhus Sunday 1st XI 209-9 (Lewis Blake 104* Jaswinder 5-28)
Old Sectonians won the toss and elected to bat first, making the most of the favorable conditions. Despite Belhus' determined efforts in the field, which saw them take 6 wickets, Old Sectonians managed to post an imposing total of 243 runs in their allotted 35 overs. Their batsmen capitalized on the excellent batting surface, keeping the scoreboard ticking over with a series of aggressive strokes and well-timed boundaries.
Belhus, undeterred by the challenging target, began their chase with determination. The highlight of their innings was undoubtedly Lewis Blake, who anchored the chase with an unbeaten 104*. Lewis displayed a masterclass in batting, combining solid defence with elegant stroke play, ensuring that Belhus remained in contention throughout their innings.
Providing crucial support was his brother, Alex Blake, who came in at number 8. Alex played a pivotal role, scoring a vital 48 runs. The Blake brothers brought Belhus tantalizingly close to the target, but despite their valiant efforts, the large total set by Old Sectonians proved just out of reach.
In the end, it was Old Sectonians who emerged victorious in this thrilling contest. Both teams showcased commendable sportsmanship and skill, making it a thoroughly enjoyable day of cricket.
Congratulations to Old Sectonians for their well-deserved win, and a hearty thank you to both teams for delivering such an entertaining match. The spirit of the game was well and truly alive on this memorable Sunday.
Thank you to Julie for scoring.
