Woolpit v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 18 Jun 2023 at 13:00
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 44 Runs
Match report
Woolpit (Suffolk) 271-7 (S Lilley 81 J Le Compte 51)
Belhus 227 all out (R Wells 72)
Having played well to win the Regional Final of the National Village Cup, we met Woolpit from Suffolk (away) in the fifth round.
Batting first, Woolpit racked up a decent total of 272 for 7 from their allotted 40 overs with Stuart Lilley (81) and Jonty Le Compte (51) the lead run-scorers while Henry Overy and Roy Heffernan took 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Sadly, we contributed 30 wides to their total which hurt us badly as it turned out.
After tea, and with the required target within our reach, however we started badly losing both the Joyce brothers cheaply. Matt Doran made an attractive 33 and Ryan Wells struck a magnificent 72 (including 4 sixes) that kept us in the hunt. He was supported well by Roy Heffernan (26) Alex Blake (30) Andrew Williams (20) and Dylan Sinfield (16) but the total proved just a little too far for us and we were bowled out for 227 to lose by 44 runs with 4.2 overs still remaining.
Well played Woolpit and than you for a great tea.
