Gavin Jefferies and Michael Cansdale delivered severe blows to Basildon and Pitsea in their own separate ways in this Essex Sunday League east division encounter at Mopsies Park. Opener Jefferies nearly carried his bat for a fine 79 which included eleven boundaries. He was eventually ninth man out, bowled by Pandit (3-19), but by the dismissal Belhus had fully accrued their match winning score. Danny Norris accompanied Jefferies at the crease for a fine 52-run partnership for the eighth wicket, until Norris was caught by Paul Tooke off the bowling of Lee Lewis for 37.

After the break, Belhus found the dry, dusty surface a spin bowler's haven, so it was fortunate indeed that the visitor's line-up included three spin bowlers, in Cansdale, Owen Jefferies and Roy Heffernan. It was Cansdale who made major inroads into the home order with 5-18 from eight overs (one maiden), while Owen Jefferies was almost equally devastating with the ball, at least in terms of economy. He finished with 2-16 from eight overs, again one maiden, and while Basildon were left praying that they had seen the end of spin, up popped Heffernan to mop up proceedings with one wicket for just nine runs from 3.1 overs. He also delivered the seemingly obligatory maiden over. Billy Winter picked up the remaining wicket to fall, taking 1-3 from two overs.
