BRENTWOOD 6th XI* v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Match was Abandoned
Match report
A severely intense thunderstorm and a prolonged heavy downpour of rain led to the abandonment of this league fixture due to a waterlogged pitch, with only 3 balls of the home sides reply possible.
However the weather did little to "dampen" the spirits of one long-serving Belhus player as JIM ROBERTSON COMPILED A SUPERB MAIDEN CENTURY. Coming in at number 4 after a steady start 'Robbo' moved to his century without giving a single chance, ably supported for a long periods by Peter Clark 43 and Steve Wood 33.
Belhus won the toss and batted on a stifingly hot, muggy afternoon. Gary Wood started brightly with a brisk 22 before being LBW and when stand in skipper Barry Ruck was caught Robertson joined opener Peter Clark with the score at 43-2. The pair combined well and worked very hard on a slow pitch to build a solid total. Their partnership was worth 93 before Clark was caught behind off a rising delivery from Patil for a hard grafting innings of 43. Robertson was joined by Steve Wood and they continued the good work. Wood hit some splendid shots including six boundaries and this assisted in driving Robertson onto to his first ever century since joining the club in 1983. It was a great effort of concentration on an extremely hot afternoon and the innings contained 10 fours and 2 sixes and was completed from 106 balls. Belhus declared with Robertson on 104 not out and Wood on 33 with their partnership being a fine unbeaten effort of 95.
The storm clouds were looming at tea and only three balls were possible in the Brentwood reply before the heavens opened but for Robertson it was a day to remember.
