Gavin Jefferies of Belhus struck no fewer than twenty boundaries in an excellent undefeated innings of 107 in Eastwood CC's cricket week. In doing so, he achieved 1,000 runs for the season and featured in a 125-run stand for the fourth wicket with Don East, who scored 39. After reaching his half century and with the final fifteen overs of the Belhus innings remaining, Jefferies cut loose by despatching the first four deliveries of Hill's third over to the boundary. Earlier in the innings, Richard Dopson and Peter Clark put on exactly 50 runs by scoring 16 and 37 respectively. The Belhus inings closed on 213-3 at tea. After welcome refreshments, the hosts were off to the worst possible start, as Ricki Ellis clean bowled Byford and Bentley, both without score. Ellis went on to finish with 3-12 from five overs which included two maidens. Eastwood almost totally capitulated as off-spin bowler Cliff Cansdale picked up 5-31 from eight overs (two maidens), Belhus wicketkeeper Paul Huckstepp, who took two catches, gave a fine performance behind the timbers. Despite a late flurry of runs from number ten batsman Ridgeway with 44 not out, Belhus secured victory as Eastwood lost their final wicket still 90 runs short of their target.
