Sunday League east division pace-setters Chelmsford deservedly won by eight wickets against Belhus at North Stifford. Chelmsford are looking for a swift return to the premier division after being relegated last year and their determination shone through, despite the best efforts of their hosts. Belhus won the toss and elected to bat as opener Gavin Jefferies scored 27 while Roy Heffernan hit 47 and Chris Baker struck 39.

In reply, Hayto and Thurston were undefeated at the close for the visitors with 57 and 60 respectively to earn a fine victory.

Earlier, Chelmsford openers Jones, 18, and Sterland, 23, both fell to the spin of Michael Cansdale, who finished with 2-43 from eight overs.
