Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v Chelmsford 5th XI on Sat 30 May 2009 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 171 Runs
Match report
On a hot, sunny day, Belhus succumbed to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of a ruthless but clinical Chelmsford 5th XI. With Belhus winning the toss and deciding to field, the opening father and son partnership of Stephen Clifford (102) and 12 years old James Clifford (91) set up what was going to be a big total. With only the unfortunate circumstance of J.Clifford being hit by a stray ball and leaving the field injured, did the wickets fall with Paul Whitlock getting the first followed by Gary Wood with a further 3 wickets and Jack Martin-Hussey and M.Scott with 1 a piece. On J.Clifford's return from being hurt, he added a further 30+ runs before being caught but leaving Chelmsford with a healthy 258-7 dec.
In reply, Belhus were outdone by a good Chelmsford attack, pick of the bowlers being captain Alex Bailey (5-22) and Alex Shepherd (3-5). Only 3 Belhus players reached double figures, including Taz Ali with a big-hitting knock of 20 n.0. to leave Belhus on 87 all out and a fine victory by Chelmsford.
