Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 25 Runs

Match report Belhus won the toss and put West Essex in to bat on what looked like a wicket to favour the bowlers. There was controversy in the first over when the whole Belhus side thought they had the opener caught behind but was turned down by the umpire after a polite appeal. It probably took Belhus 5 overs to get over the decision, which the batsmen took advantage of by trying to smash any delivery which was fractionally off line and length. Once the first wicket was taken, the other wickets fell on a regular basis without any meaningful partnerships being put together. The aggressive attitude of the batting put a final score of 191 all out on the board from 41.4 overs.

Belhus began their innings in comfortable style and were taking 4 an over before losing Steve Huckstepp, LBW. The 3rd wicket was lost on 103 and with plenty of overs at their disposal the win looked well on. However with the wicket drying out and the ball beginning to behave more and more eratically West Essex introduced Dan Footman into the attack, bowling left arm over. He finished with figures of 5 for 23 from 11 overs including 2 LBWs' which secured the win for West Essex by 25 runs with 10 overs left in the innings.
