Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Epping on Sat 09 May 2009 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 9 Wickets
Match report
Epping 1st XI 101
Belhus 1st XI 105-1
This was the 1st XI's inaugural match in the Shepherd Neame Essex League.
Epping won the toss and elected to bat. James Terry and Kevin Harber both bowled an excellent line, regularly hitting the seam, causing lots of problems for the Epping top order. After 18 overs with these two bowling, the score was 34 for the loss of 5 wickets. Richard Waters came on first change and continued to apply pressure by bowling the same tight line and he ended with 3 for 31. Geoff Maynard tried to dig in to get his side out of trouble, but was eventually given out LBW to the bowling of James Terry. The innings was closed on 101 when Terry claimed his 5th wicket, bowling Billy Holden for 0, and finishing with 5 for 28 from 14.2 overs.
Belhus got under way badly, losing their first wicket with the score on 3. However, with plenty of overs at their disposal and the pitch playing excellently, all they had to do was to wait for a loose ball and put it away. The Epping bowlers tried hard to make another breakthrough but it never came. Gavin Jefferies finished on 58 not out and Richard Day 38 not out to give Belhus a comfortable victory by 9 wickets.
