Batting first in this seventh Essex League match of the season, our 2nd XI registered a modest total of 219-8 after 50 overs as Robert Healy top-scored with 51 not out. David Hewitt bowled well for Westcliff, collecting 5 for 58.

In the run-chase, Westcliff batted steadily down the order with Ishan Madan stroking a fine 78, but with Teddy Waters and Henry Overy collecting 4 and 3 wickets respectively, we managed to stem the tide as they fell just 16 runs short of their target.

A keenly-contested and evenly-balanced match eventually went our way, and skipper Martin Guilbert was pleased to see his young side move up to 4th place in their Division.
