Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Mayfield (Southgate) on Sun 18 Sep 2022 at 1.00pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 18 Runs
Match report
Mayfield 275 for 3
Belhus 257 for 5
Belhus lost by 18 runs in this very high scoring Sunday friendly.
Batting first, Mayfield took full advantage of the young Belhus attack, which included Aariyan Kansagra playing his first adult game and Sam Hisscott playing only his 4th, but both bowled well and Tyler Robertson also picked up his 50th wicket for the season, as Mayfield posted an excellent 275 for 3, with thanks to Ravi Pooran, who hit his hightest score and equalled Mayfield's second highest individual score, with his excellent 151, which included 19 fours, and he was only out when trying to run a 2 off the last ball of the innings to beat that 151, as he never looked in any real trouble all day. He was supported by Samit Patel with his nice 60 and Shaf Kazi 36, but it was Ravi's day for sure.
Belhus started the run chase well, but lost Jim Robertson for 22, at 49 for in the 11 over. Chris Didd (the third highest run-scorer this season) quickly followed for a duck, to a ball that kept very low. Enter Young Henry Overy to Join Michael Cansdale. Belhus now had the club's two highest runs scorers this season at the crease and together they set about the task of chasing down the big total and they were going so well until Cansdale went for one big shot too many and was caught in the deep for a fine 71, with 11 fours and 1 six. Skipper Read Joined Overy, but at 148 for 3, with 15 overs to go were still a long way away. Read fell for 40, with the score at 240 for 4, with just 17 balls left, Leaving any chance of the win down to young Henry and he never gave up the chase and ended up a brilliant 95 not out, with 10 fours, a great innings and effort from the young man, as we fell some 18 runs short.
A great game and good way to end this season's home games.
