Match report Orsett Scorchers (H) Monday 14th June

Less than 24hrs after our defeat to Stanford, Belhus were again in action against Orsett Scorchers.

With this being our first home game of the season it was a night where some made their debuts, but also some made their first appearance on North Stifford Village Green, home of the best cricket club in Essex.

The coaches and captains went out to the middle and Belhus won the toss. It was thought that Belhus would have a bat first, but skipper Oliver chose to bowl first.

And it proved to be the correct decision once it was all said and done.

Debutants Joseph and Will opened the bowling, apart from a couple of no balls for height from Joseph and a few wides from Will they both bowled excellently.

Will only conceded 7 runs off his two overs and Joseph managed to get his first wicket.

Ronnie and John took up the mantle with the ball and between them restricted the runs to 13 runs from their 4 overs. John line and action seemed to unnerve the opposition batsmen and Ronnie’s consistent line and length was superb too.

Charlie and Reuben came into the attack and both bowled beautifully too. The majority of the balls were dots from both boys and their spell helped to restrict the Orsett innings.

Vansh and Aryan then came into the attack and really did a number on their opponents.

Vansh took a wicket with his first ball and between them they only conceded 15 runs over their four overs.

This was a superb comeback from both boys after they had both told me on Sunday they had felt they could bowl better.

So to see them do that within 24hrs was a fantastic thing and the smile on their faces at the end of our bowling was wonderful.

Oliver and George bowled at the death for us and again kept the Orsett score to a minimum.

During George’s spell he conceded 4 runs in his two overs. This giving him the figures over the two games of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 0 wickets for 4 runs.

These are excellent figures for anybody let alone an U11s player. Well done George.

Orsett finished their innings with 93 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Given them a net score of 81.

Chasing 82 to win Joseph and Will set about their batting. Apart from a little mishap with a run out both boys batted very well and made a great impression on their debut.

Between them, Ronnie, John and Charlie managed to put on 1 run from the bat, but slack Orsett fielding allowed Belhus to pick up multiple extras and the running and calling the three boys did was excellent.

Batting at 6, 7 and 8 respectively Vansh, George and Aryan gave Belhus a foothold in the game. All three lads scored some runs and made sure their calling and running was on point.

With Reuben and Oliver batting at 9 and 10 we knew the game was going to be close.

Both boys batted beautifully and they scored runs on 18 of the final 24balls including extras.

Their running between the wicket was excellent and both made sure their calling was loud and clear too.

Only 1 run came off the over, but the 5 dot balls there too allowed us to not lose anymore wickets.

We finished our innings with 104 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Giving Belhus a net score of 86 and a winnings margin of 5 runs.

Once the boys had fist bumped their opponents and gathered in all the boundary flags we sat them down to congratulate them on their win.

It was a time to praise the win but also a chance to reflect on the lessons they learned on Sunday and put right 24hrs later, before sending them all off with their parents to hopefully have a good nights sleep, while the coaches went to the bar for a well earned beverage.
