Belhus Cricket Club Won by 38 Runs

Match report Billericay (A) Weds 16th June

On a warm sunny Wednesday evening there was a very important sporting event taking place………..both on the Toby Howe Ground, Billericay in front of me and in Baku, Azerbaijan on my phone :)

Come on Wales :)

Anyway, back to the cricket.

The stunning venue played host to Belhus U11s fourth game of the season.

At the toss, Billericay won and decided to have a bowl which would mean it was the first time this season we have had to bat first.

Harvey and Joseph batted first and for the away side and even though two wickets were lost they both batted very well saw off Billericay’s opening bowlers.

Matthew and William then came to the crease and both did excellently. Their calling was clear and positive and after their 4 overs the Belhus score had increased by 17 runs.

Ronnie and John were the third batting pair and continued the fine work.

Ronnie managed to get his first runs off the bat this season and was very happy with it when he came off the field.

As for John he hit probably the best shot of the season so far and stood and admired it……unfortunately due to great fielding the ball was stopped from going over the boundary so Belhus got no runs there. But it was lovely to see John laugh about it when he came off the pitch and he now knows next time he needs to not admire the shot :)

Lewys and Charlie were our fourth paring and we’re both excellent!!!

As in the other 3 games Charlie’s calling and running between the wicket was excellent.

Lewys managed to score 9 runs in this game, his first runs of the season and this included his first ever boundaries.

Oliver and Ruben were the final paring for Belhus and once again they batted fantastically well together. They got runs off the bat from 12 of their 24 balls, with Oliver contributing 12 and Reuben top scoring with 16 runs.

Belhus ended with 101 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. So we posted a Net score of 80.

At the half time interval the coaches were very happy with how we had batted, but made sure we told the boys that we still had to be disciplined with our bowling and fielding as we were unsure how Billericay were in regards to batting.

Harvey and Joseph opened the bowling together and both bowled very very well. Harvey only conceded 7 runs from his two overs and although Joseph conceded 16 runs he also took two wonderful wickets.

Those opening 4 overs gave us a wonderful start and the lads who followed carried on that level of bowling.

Matthew and Will were the first change bowlers and apart from a couple of no balls Matthew only conceded two runs off the bat.

As for Will……WOW……With his 3rd and 4th balls he took two wickets and was on a hat trick which unfortunately did not materialise. His spell ended with 2 Overs, 0 maidens, 3 wickets for the loss of 8 runs which was magnificent!!

Reuben and John took up the mantle next and both kept their lines tight and although they didn’t take any wickets between they didn’t make it easy for the home side at all.

Charlie and Lewys were our fourth bowling pair and just like their teammates, they restricted Billericay wonderfully.

Both boys picked up a wicket each too, with Charlie’s wicket a personal highlight for me. I was stood right behind the wicket when he bowled it and the line and swing on the ball was superb.

The final bowlers for Belhus were Olly and Ronnie and boy were these overs magnificent!!!

Ronnie took his first two wickets in hardball cricket but his two overs were great. He took 2 wickets for the loss of only 1 run.

As for Olly he really gave a captains performance and managed to pick up 3 wickets himself.

His 3 wickets were only for the loss of 5 runs which was fantastic and capped off a great game for Belhus.

Those final 4 overs for Belhus went for a total of net -9 runs. This was 5 wickets taken for a loss of only 6 runs.

Billericay were restricted to 79 runs for the loss of 12 wickets. So finished on a net score of 43, giving Belhus a victory by 38 runs!!

There were massive positives in today’s game and everyone was superb.

Us coaches certainly left with smiles on our faces and it was great to see that the boys did too!!

Well done all :)

Kind Regards
Belhus U11s
