Orsett & Thurrock Tigers v Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 on Wed 23 Jun 2021 at 17:30
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 43 Runs
Match report
With no cricket for the last two days and having to put up with the boring Euros (for the record it’s not boring when your Welsh and just happy to be there)…..it was lovely to get back out into the middle and have a game against local club rivals Orsett.
On the warm sunny early evening, Belhus won the toss and elected to have a bowl first.
Finley and Joseph opened the bowling for the Belhus team and both bowled superbly well. Their four overs between them only conceded 7 runs and managed to pick up one wicket.
The wicket was from a run out after smart fielding from Reuben and George took the bails off.
Finley had his best bowling figures of the season so far with 2 overs for a total of 3 runs.
Joseph picked up his first maiden over, finishing with 2 overs, 1 maiden for the loss of 4 runs.
Ronnie and Will were up next and have bowled together in tandem again as they have done recently and both kept their lines tight and although they did not pick up any wickets they made sure they restricted the runs scored by the home team.
Our third bowling pair were Reuben and Charlie. Reuben only conceded 10 runs from his two overs and these overs also included 8 dot balls which was fantastic.
Charlie finished with figures of 2 overs, 0 maidens, 1 wicket for the loss of just 7 runs.
Vansh and Lewys bowled overs 13-16 and really managed to put a halt to the home sides run scoring. The boys only conceded 8 runs in this period which included 17 dot balls and Lewys also managed to pick up one wicket.
The final four overs were bowled by George and Oliver and again Belhus gave nothing away. Orsett only managed to score 8 runs in that four over spell, but after a fantastic bowling spell by George where he picked up 4 wickets and a superb piece of fielding from Finley to get a run out from a direct hit, Belhus managed to pick up 5 wickets.
Orsett Tigers ended their innings having scored 60 runs for the loss of 8 wickets so giving them a net score of 36.
After a little chat with the coaches, a drink with their parents and no doubt a bite to eat, Belhus began their run chase.
Just like in the bowling, Joseph and Finley opened. The first two overs from Orsett were bowled excellently and were maidens, in fact as was the fourth over. However the last two balls of over 3 is where the action takes place.
The fifth ball of the over was nudged into the offside by Joseph for a single, his first of the game and in fact his first runs of the season and then the very next ball, Finley hit a glorious shot that went all the way to the boundary for 4.
Will and Ronnie soon took up the fight and both continued to add runs to the board for the loss of just one wicket. Between them the boys scored 13 runs and both scoring their highest runs of the season so far.
Charlie and Vansh came to the crease and managed to continue the Belhus run rate, while actually facing some excellent bowling, this included a “shot of the day” contender from Charlie who a ball off his pads for 4 to the square leg boundary that any cricketer would’ve been proud of.
Lewys and George were in next and against some excellent bowling found runs hard to come by. George led the partnership with 5 runs, which included a sublime 4.
The final two for Belhus were Reuben and Oli and as per the majority of our games so far there were fireworks!
Their partnership was a total of 42 runs. Oliver top scoring with 18, Reuben getting 8 and there being 16 extras. The running between the wickets between these two boys again was fantastic and both hit boundaries too.
Belhus ended with 91 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, with a Net score of 79.
This resulted in a win for Belhus by 43 runs!
As well as being our biggest win so far, the game also included the following…..
-Four batsmen getting their highest individual score so far.
-Two bowlers getting their best individual bowling figures so far.
-Someone getting their first ever maiden.
-Our first “4 for” in a game so far this season.
-Three boys getting their first ever boundaries in hard ball cricket too.
This is honestly astonishing and full praise for this needs to go to the boys. As we said after the game on Sunday, these boys are currently training during the matches themselves and have been fantastic!
That’s now 6 wins from 7 and on Friday night we head along the A13 for a Cup match v Stanford.
Those boys who aren’t playing, you're more than welcome to come along and support the team if you want. I know the lads would love that extra support.
Kind Regards
