Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v RAINHAM* on Sat 08 Aug 1998 at 1.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 117 Runs
Match report
Barking & Dagenham Post League
45 Overs
Belhus 303 for 2
Rainham 186 for 9
Won By 117 Runs
Having lost the toss on what was no doubt the hottest day of the year, Rainham Captain A Moon inserted us in to bat, as he had a player leaving early and did not want to field against us with 10 men, a decision he would no doubt regret for a very long time, as Belhus got back to winning ways after last week's defeat and what a day it proved to be.
Dave Aldridge took full advantage of the flat pitch and hot conditions as he carried his bat through the innings for a tremendous 155 not out, a stylish innings which included 18 fours. He never looked in any trouble at the crease and set the foundation for what was to be the highest total in the club's history. T lambert fell for 23 and will no doubt feel he missed the boat, as Aldridge was joined by Captain W Read and the pair put on 161 for the second wicket. Read fell for 68, taking one to many liberties trying to smash A Maidment over mid wicket and getting bowled and himself no doubt missing out on a hundred. Rich Waters joined Aldridge and helped himself to 33 not out, as the innings closed on 305 for 2.
Chasing a huge total was never going to be easy, especially in light of how well our attack had been bowling this season. As wickets fell, Rainham were never really in the hunt, Hill batted well for a very good 68 and Hunt scored 42 not out batting at 8, but the game had long gone by then and their innings closed on 186 for 9, a decent total after chasing the ball around earlier in the extreme heat. S Liddiard picked up 3 for 33 from 10 overs, M Winter 2 for 29 off 9 and J Robertson 2 for 43 off 9.
It was only one man's day though as Aldridge also picked up 1 for 14 and rounded off what was to be a very memorable day for him and push Belhus right back in the title race.
