Belhus without their Captain for family reasons, had specific instructions from him after their great run of games and facing bottom of the league side "whatever you do, don't dare lose!".

Canvey Island won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious hot sunny day and took full advantage of the conditions. R Burrill and D Shroder both hit very good half centuires, as the Islanders posted a decent 205 for 9 in their 45 overs, Burrill with 50 and Shroder 56 batting together in the middlde order setting this up.
S Liddiard and K Hall both picked up 2 wickets and Rob Waters a good 4 for 31 off 9 overs.

In reply, we lost two quick wickets with the score at 28 (T Lincoln 15) and 29 (T Lambert 11). A Cayless 23 and Rich Waters 16 tried to lead a revival, but we rhen lost 3 wickets for 7 runs and at 73 for 5 were in trouble. We never really recovered and only D Cayless 20 and Rob Waters 18 not out were the other batsman to show any further resistance to the Canvey attack as our innings petered out to a poor 128. M Gorman and R Burrill both bowled well picking up 2 wickets apiece, but P Walker was the man who did the damage, with his 4 for 14 off 5 overs, as Canvey pick up the points for a very good win against the league leaders at the start of the day and leaving the Belhus side to no doubt face the wrath of the Captain when he finds out.
