Stewart Farr
(1994-2018)
Stewart Farr
joined Belhus CC in 2012 having already known many of our members
throughout preceding years. The exceptional character of Stewart brought
him instantly into the Belhus family and he became a much-liked and
popular member of our Club.
As an all-rounder, he was athletic in the field and reliable with the
ball. His style of batting was, at times, unorthodox, but often very
effective. During his time with the Club, he played in 109 matches and
appeared in at least one match for all Saturday XIs, both XIs on a
Sunday, our Midweek XI and our Tour XI. On 18th May 2013,
he registered his highest batting score - 89 against Westcliff-on-Sea
CC - then a Club record score for a number 7 batsman. And in that
match, he shared a magnificent 143-run match-winning partnership with
Brian Edwards.
Stewart regularly participated in our annual tour to Norfolk (appearing
in 20 matches) where he would be often used as an opening bowler against
some very strong teams. He would willingly carry the bowling attack on
his shoulders and was influential in a number of our matches. In 2015 Stewart was elected Captain of our 3rd XI.
In 2016 he joined the Royal Tank Regiment, and although this meant that his
on-field appearances for the Club were limited, we were always delighted
to see him when he visited us to tell us how he was getting on. He was
always part of our family.
While Stewart's many qualities and achievements can be easily put into words, we
struggle to adequately express the sorrow and sadness we are all feeling
as a result of his passing last weekend. The Club's members and
supporters were truly blessed to have had Stewart as part of their lives
and he will be greatly missed. We extend our sincere condolences to
Stewart's parents, Jane and Joe, his brother Ian, and his sisters
Michelle, Sarah and Joanna.
