Batting first after losing the toss, our batsmen seemed to get in but not go on and the reason for that was A Mckinley of Hornchurch Ath, who took full advantage of the conditions and produced a wonderful spell of bowling to reduce us to 139 all out. He bowled all the way through the innings with some 24.4 overs and 6 maidens to take 8 wickets for 65 runs.

This would in fact prove to be a good total and the match was to go all the way, as Hornchurch reached the total 9 wickets down in the 50th over of their innings, as P Corera with 48 not out was the batsmen of the day and without this innings and the help from P Crane 21 not out at the end, the result would have surely been different, even though for Belhus, S Bayford tried hard in vain to win the game on his own. He also bowled brilliantly producing career best figures of 7 for 56 with 5 maidens off 19 overs, in what really proved to be a game of two bowlers, as they took 15 wickets between them.
