Batting first, Havering reached the solid total of 228 for 5 in their allotted 54 overs, after a good start from D. Ostle 36 and a very good knock of 73 from T. Bland, and all other batsmen chipping in - Lowe 17, Wallace 19, Clay and Collins both not out at the end with 13 and 21. Keith Hall was the main man with the ball, picking up 4 for 56 off 17 overs, but all of the attack bowled well, keeping Havering to just over 4 an over on a very good pitch and a lovely hot day.

Belhus cruised to victory and an opening stand between, the young Martin Guilbert being promoted to opening the batting for the first time and Wayne Read of 170, was the perfect starting platform. When Guilbert fell in the 32nd over, his innings of 60 included 6 fours. But it was to be Read's day in more ways than one and his excellent innings of 116 with 18 fours was more than enough to ensure a very comprehensive win, as he hit the Havering attack to all parts of the ground. And when he was out at 213 for 3 in the 37th over, the job was basically done and the total was reached in 39.5 overs.

The game was also to produce a milestone as Read surpassed the most runs scored in a season.
