Belhus lost to Pegasus on a very hot and sunny day at the Village Green in what proved to be an excellent game dispite the result.

Batting first, Pegasus racked up 253 as our bowlers toiled away in the heat and John Bennett hit a lovely 103 in what proved to be the mainstay of the innings, B Francis 26, N Grey 29 and S Francis 28 assisted. Rob Waters was the pick of our bowlers picking up 4 for 49 from 11 overs.

Belhus lost A Cayless early in the reply, but then a stand of 149 between A.Lincoln and W.Read put us in a very good position, but it was Read to fall for 97 in a excellent innings where he took control of the bowling, hitting 16 fours. If only he'd gone on to the hundred, the result may well have been different. G. Werry joined Lincoln, but Lincoln was to fall soon after at 167 for 3 for 48 with 9 fours in his innings, wickets then fell at regular intervals and when Werry fell for a good 41, including 7 fours and the score at 211 for 6, the game was in the balance. But it was the persistence with the ball from Alan Patmore that proved to be the deciding factor in this match, his mammoth spell of 23.5 overs with 3 maidens saw him pick up 7 for 104. With the game going to the last over and Belhus needing 8 to win, he took the last 2 wickets in consecutive balls for no runs, leaving him on the hat trick next time he bowls to cap off a very good win for Pegasus and leaving Belhus thinking, if only, if only.
